Atlas of the Heart is Brené Brown’s latest publication. Using a map metaphor, she explores the various emotional places we go when things are uncertain, when we search for connection, and when we self-assess. Known mostly for her work around shame and vulnerability, in Atlas of the Heart, Brené outlines 87 other common human emotions and experiences.
Whether you are aware of your emotions or not, unexamined and internalized emotions lead to coping mechanisms like people pleasing, controlling others, care taking, perfectionism, body image struggles, and substance abuse.
“To form meaningful connections with others, we must first connect with ourselves, but to do either, we must first establish a common understanding of the language of emotion and human experience.” – Brené Brown
I am beginning a 4 month (16 week) study and support group to work through her latest book, Atlas of the Heart.
Blending left + right brain experiences, this group is both educational and supportive of your growth.
Through the book, readers:
Understand how and why emotions show up in our bodies
Increase curiosity how our beliefs have been shaped by environment
Examine our go-to behaviors
Recognize the context of what we’re feeling of thinking
Group participants can expect:
A shared community who wants to know themself better
A brave space to practice exploring emotions and sharing experiences
Support around identifying biology, biography, behaviors, and backstory that influence your emotions and experiences
Education from a licensed mental health professional
** You choose how much or how little you share or participate *
Benefits of participating in a support group may include:
Feeling less lonely, isolated or judged
Reducing stress, depression, anxiety or fatigue
Talking openly and honestly about your feelings
Improving skills to cope with challenges
Gaining a sense of empowerment, control or hope
“The human spirit is resilient, and just as we can reclaim our ability to breathe and feel and think, we can rebuild the bones that anguish rips away. But it takes help and time.” – Atlas Of The Heart, Brené Brown
